Physical features of binoculars

Introduction

All binoculars, whether pocket size, normal size or really big, have the same physical features. Understanding them will help a great deal towards understanding binoculars. The following features will be explained: basic design (porro or roof), focusing mechanisms, objective lenses (aperture), magnification (power), exit pupil, diopter, eyepiece spacing, eye relief, weatherproofing, collimation, type of glass the prisms are made of and armoring.
